With the flurry of moves made, the only thing that hasn’t changed a ton is the starting lineup for the Omaha Hawks. The team seems to be so sure of themselves that they are actually starting spring training with only 26 people on the roster.
We sat down with manager Joss Bar who let us into his head as far as potential lineups look for the season.
On the decision to start spring training with a 26 man roster.
“We want our guys that are going to play the most throughout the season to get reps early on.” Said manager Joss Bar. “With that in mind we cut down early who we thought wasn’t going to make the team to start out. We only have 25 spots. There is nothing saying that a guy can’t blow things out of the water in AAA and be up a month into the season.”
On what his outfield is looking like.
“We are looking at Barajasin left field, batting second.Jimmy will play center field and more than likely lead off for us. Emilio Rodriguez (8/9/9/4/5 Talents, .299/.335/.546, 472 HR, 1429 RBI) is going to play right field more days than not. He will probably bat 3rd or 4th in the lineup. Manuel Freyta (7/6/4/7/6 Talents, .263/.336/.394, 58 HR, 299 RBI) is going to be the backup for Barajas & Starts while Jesus Rojas (7/7/7/4/8 Talents, .264/.308/.470, 12 HR, 53 RBI) is going to backup right field.
On what his infield is going to resemble
“I think our infield is fairly set now with the acquisition of Juan Rodriguez (6/7/7/9/4 Talents, .232/.358/.413, 99 HR, 343 RBI) to play shortstop. We will be going with Buck Munoz (8/8/8/5/7 Talents, .267/.316/.486, 41 HR, 129 RBI) at first base, Emilio Morales (7/6/10/3/10 Talents, .280/.310/.437, 19 HR, 79 RBI) is a kid were really excited about who will be playing second base, and Jim Tremblett (5/7/8/6/5 Talents, .218/.299/.428, 59 HR, 162 RBI) will be taking his normal spot on the hot corner. Munoz will probably bat 3rd or 4th depending on which one Emilio Rodriguez (8/9/9/4/5 Talents, .299/.335/.546, 472 HR, 1429 RBI) ends up in, Juan Rodriguez (6/7/7/9/4 Talents, .232/.358/.413, 99 HR, 343 RBI) will probably hit 6th and Jim Tremblett (5/7/8/6/5 Talents, .218/.299/.428, 59 HR, 162 RBI) will be batting 7th. Morales is going to give us a spark at the end of the lineup for the time being and in my head is batting 9th. Jesus Rojas (7/7/7/4/8 Talents, .264/.308/.470, 12 HR, 53 RBI) is a bit of a versatile player and he’s probably going to be our backup player for not only right field, but also around in the infield.
Who is going to DH
“Jesus Alvarado (7/7/7/6/7 Talents, .263/.337/.449, 79 HR, 241 RBI). Without any hesitation. This is our designated hitter.Esteban Contreras will be his backup in case he needs a breather, but I am guessing most of Contreras at bats will come from the bench or from backing up Buck at 1st base.
Behind the plate
“Bobby is our guy back there. He is only 23 years old and hit .307 last year while playing good defense. He is without a doubt our backstop. Were excited to have Dave Robertson (5/6/8/6/4 Talents, .235/.285/.429, 123 HR, 388 RBI) coming in to back up Bob, but the majority of the starts will be Bob’s.
Coming off a 90 loss season, what are this teams expectations
“I think the expectations are always to compete and to win. We had a 93 loss season last year and the year before that was 98 losses, and prior to that I think was 106 losses and even 113 the year before that? This team has shown some improvement over the rebuild process they went through and I think were ready to compete. I would be surprised if we weren’t looking at being a few games over 500 this season and in direct contention for a playoff spot and potentially even a shot at the division. This is a tough division, but I think that our time is here.
