Indy Grasshoppers Team Hall of Fame & Retired Numbers

Post by niles08 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 1:40 pm

With the new regime taking over the Indy Grasshoppers one thing that new general manager Justin Niles noticed was missing was a Grasshopper Hall of Fame. "We have had some great players come through and devote themselves to helping this team be what they have been, and they should be honored". We will not induct more than a maximum of 1 player each off-season unless there are extraordinary circumstances. Any player inducted will have to have great pride playing for the organization while contributing in ways others never have.

Although the team has moved around quite a bit in it's years, it has been decided that only players who actually played a season in Indy, will be inducted. This is not a knock on past players, but more of a highlight of those players who have truly contributed to the city of Indianapolis.

It is truly an honor to present the very first hall of fame inductee. With this official induction, no player with wear #47 for the Indy Grasshoppers again as the production and value #47 provided during his playing career can simply not be re-produced. Image

#47 Ryoko Masaki

Masaki was an incredible asset to Indy from 1978 throughout his entire career that spanned to 1991. In total Makasi finds his name atop the all-time team leader board in a number of different categories. Although Masaki kept to himself throughout much of his career, he was very well respected by his teammates and at times there was nobody better stealing 2nd, nor playing second.

Nice addition. Franchise leaders are always good choices to start.

It gets fun as you go when you start including guys who weren't necessarily stat leaders but "fan favorites". And by fan favorites I mean guys you just like because you like them.

It's weird seeing him in an Indy uniform, considering he never played for Indy...although I have no idea what an Austin River Bat uniform looks like...

I would like to close this. Since we are the Omahawks, we will only be inducting members into our Hall Of Fame who contributed to the team while in Omaha.
