Once again in Brook Park we are seeing the cycle of players coming in on short stints and not getting extended once the contract expires. We have really tried to implement targeted short term contracts especially with older veterans GM Spencer said. As this franchise is trying to do a overhaul from the ground up we always felt it was important to bring in quality veterans on short term deals and glean from their leadership. Its not that we don't want them here long term its just that we are focused on keeping our finances under control and protecting the future.
Leaving this offseason is Felipe Mendez who spent the past 3 seasons in Omaha/Brook Park. Drafted in the rule 5 draft in 2060 Mendez had a career turnaround in Brook Park. He was 30-30 with a 4.66 ERA in his 3 seasons in Brook Park with 2061 being his best season in several years. Mendez impressed us so much that we gave him a 2 year deal for 10 mill per season. We loved having him the past 3 seasons and if he decides he would like to return we would definitely be willing to listen.
Also departing this offseason was Gamal Bin Badr. Signed this offseason while he had a torn labrum Brook Park was able to get him to make 19 starts for the club this season. He ended the season 4-6 with a 5.86 although he struggled some it was good to see him have an opportunity to prove himself after his injury.
Also departing is versatile OF Jose Vazquez who was aquired in the Ferrell trade with the Swamp Foxes. He had a decent season for us this year but with the amount of money needed to extend him we just felt we wanted to invest that money in other areas of the team.
One of last seasons FA aquisitions will be back on the market this offseaon in Austin Nolan. We loved everything he did for us with his bat this season but we was just not comfortable extending him out the numbers of years he was wanting. He is definitely someone we would like to talk to again on something a little shorter if he wants to return to negotiations.
Once again Brook Park has quite a bit of money to bring in more talent. I think you will find Brook Park behaving in a similar manner as past off-season's. There is areas of this club we are needing to address and we will continue to target short term solutions while we continue to try to build this organization from the ground up. We might look a few internal extensions or making some targeted trades this offseason. We want to continue to maintain our flexibility as we build up this organization.

Nolan’s numbers against southpaws last season don’t make a whole lot of sense.
