2063.4 Brownies select SP 10th overall
The Brook Park Brownies have made their first ever selection in the amateur draft when they selected Miguel Maes 10th overall in the first round. Maes is 6'3" 195 lbs righty who throws 95+ mph with a 3 pitch mix and an excellent fastball. He is someone we felt could pound the zone and especially having at least 1 plus pitch that could make him a valuable asset for us going forward. Overall if you look at the league opinion of this draft most people will say it lacked top end talent outside a few guys. We are not saying Maes is our future ace but we do believe Maes has an excellent chance to be a mid to backend piece in the rotation.
We love the intangibles with Maes GM Spencer said. He has a high baseball IQ and lives and breathes the game and we believe his development risk is not as severe as others which makes him a little safer pick for us. As we are still pretty early in this rebuild in Brook Park and our focus has been on aquiring depth across the board throughout our system Starting pitching is definitely an area where we want to have plenty depth at. We would love this position to be an area where we can develop our guys because buying them on the open market can really be costly.
This is the 2nd time GM Spencer has selected a 1st round arm since taking over Omaha/Brook Park. In 2060 GM Spencer selected Antonio Fox who was drafted 16th overall that season. Fox debuted last year in the rotation and has become a fixture in the rotation this year. We see Maes similar to Fox he won't blow you away type starter but someone every team wants in their rotation. We are excited for the opportunity to have both guys in the rotation within the next few years. Although we are happy with Maes we are not done yet GM Spencer said. There is many more good players that we are looking at as we complete this draft.

PIcked a SP three out of the five years in Valencia, LF the other two years.
Outfielders are with the big league club, pitchers are in AA and S A.

Maes looks really solid. You definitely are more aggressive than I am at where you start your picks. I still can't get myself to place people in AA or AAA immediately.

Between reading this and the vesting options thing it seems like you enjoy fighting with one arm tied behind yer back.

I actually don't recall ever being this aggressive with anyone especially SP so this is not my DNA. AAA didn't seem out of his league and I gave it a shot with him and he responded quite well. I certainty don't think this will be a pattern going forward

I'm evolving. I am not a cutting edge type. But I do look at what others do and adapt. But I still think rushing a player isn't good long term. so we'll see how the immediate AAA players are doing in a few seasons. it's looking fairly reasonable right now.BaseClogger wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 1:43 pmBetween reading this and the vesting options thing it seems like you enjoy fighting with one arm tied behind yer back.
I still don't plan to use vesting options until OOTP institutes a player grievance feature. Otherwise I can promise the moon and then bench them. Just not how I want to win.
