2063.6 Brownie Bites young SP showing promise
As the 2063 season is coming to an end it has no doubt been a disappointment for the new Brook Park Brownies. Sitting at a .425 winning percentage Brook Park is running exactly even with last years record and has shown no improvement on the overall record from last season. GM Spencer said looking at it from that perspective it does bring a sense of disappointment for the club. You always want to show growth in a rebuild and so far we have not been able to do that. Our rebuild is still fairly early as this will only be our 2nd consecutive losing season. Sometimes the wins and loses coming later but we are happy with several of the things that is happening with this club.
One area where we really tried to focus on is getting our SP younger and some experience. That is not always easy as pitching is one of the hardest areas to build up. Every club is looking for that ace in the rotation someone you can give the ball to in the final game of a playoff series and trust them to get the job done. We are still searching for that guy but i think we have found some other guys to pitch other games in a playoff series and provide much needed depth in a rotation.
The 16th overall pick in the 2060 draft Antonio Fox is one of those guys. In his first full season in the BBA Fox has not disappointed. He is 7-8 with a 4.46 ERA in 31 starts and on pace to throw 173 innings this season. Fox is only 22 years old he has a long future ahead of him. Every organization in this league would love to have a young SP that you can put into your rotation.
Possibly the most shocking player on the Brownies this season has been Jose Martinez who BrookPark aquired via the rule 5 draft from Montreal this season. The rule 5 pick actually made the All Star team for Brookpark this season. Martinez is 14-12 with a 4.44 ERA in 30 starts this season. Martinez has struggled a little bit the past 5-6 weeks but thats part of being a young pitcher. Martinez just needed an opportunity to start and he found that in Brook Park.
The #10 overall pick in this years draft by Brook Park was Miguel Maes. The pick might have come to a surprise by some but Maes has not disappointed. Maes went immediately to AAA right out of the draft. Maes is 9-5 with a 2.90 ERA in 22 starts in AAA and is looking like a candidate to debut next season for Brook Park. Maes has been everything Brook Park could have hoped for. We never drafted Maes to be the ace we just felt like he could be a rotation piece for us in the future and he looks like exactly what we expected.
We have had an aging rotation in Brook Park and this needed addressed and we felt like we got that off to a good start. We have a couple more young arms that we like but we still have a lot of work to do to get more depth in our rotation. This will continue to be a focus area for the Brownies going forward. In a perfect world you like to develop your SP from within and thats our goal. We realize thats not always possible but its what we are working towards. Although this has been a tough season no doubt I am encouraged with our young SP

Been a tough luck year. You've closed to gap from a Run Differential perspective.

You’ve got some nice young pitchers there.

Ditto on the Martinez pickup from Montreal. Worth more than some of my first-rounders still stuck in the minors.

I’m surprised Montreal didn’t trade him ahead of the draft.
