Emilio Morales traded back to Omaha.(50.04)

Post by niles08 » Tue Mar 01, 2022 1:23 pm

After all the buildup that Emilio Morales was set to be a free agent for the first time in his career, it appears it was all for naught. Technically, Morales was a free agent and agreed to a contract with the Nashville Bluebirds. However, that was a minor league deal and Morales wasn’t even invited to spring training. The deal technically will pay Emilio Morales $3,000,000 if he is he added to the 40-man roster and has a bonus of $150,000 if he has 550 plate appearances.

Now, the two inner-division teams have agreed to a deal that will send Morales back to Omaha for $733. If the number 733 seems odd, it’s clearly a gentleman’s deal, as 733 is the number of home runs that Morales has hit in his career. Nashville clearly cares about the story of Emilio Morales and wanted to help him finish his career with one team.

Of course, Morales does hold an opt-out, and he could opt out of the contract if he is not promoted within 30 days of the regular season beginning. The date for that would be April 30th, so it’s worth watching if Morales is back hitting in the ballpark now named after him, or whether he is back to free agency.
