Massive changes sweep Omaha!

Post by niles08 » Fri Jan 31, 2020 7:52 am

The Omaha Hawks announced a slew of roster moves today, many that have fans shaking their heads.

In the most extreme news, the club has announced that Timo Dooley, Jose Lima, and Andre Ly have all been optioned to AAA Lincoln.

“Despite the moves made today, this club has always cared about winning and continues to try to field the best possible team in order to win each and every ball game. The three players mentioned continue to be a part of our long term plan however all three of these incredibly gifted youngsters have things to work on as their current work in 2041 has shown.” Said Omaha GM Justin Niles.

Timo Dooley has been the talk among money fans as a disappointment this season, his first in the BBA. He has a 4-10 record with a 5.53 ERA despite a BABIP of only .253. The fact he has walked more than struck out this season, is certainly an alarming development.

Jose Lima on the other hand, came out of nowhere last season and won 20 games with the club, going 20-4 with a 3.16 ERA. While many of his statistics appear the same as his K/9 is exactly the same, walks and home runs per 9 innings pitched have gone up for the youngster this year along with some bad luck as his BABIP is .351.

Andre Ly debuted last season to a bit of a disappointing performance at the plate, and followed that up with an even more disappointing performance this season as his batting average is only currently .238. While he was batting leadoff a .329 on base percentage is not going to get it done. Similar to Dooley, Ly is only 21 and appears to be a star in the making, he just has to put it all together. It sounds likely that Ly will also play primarily center field during his time in AAA.

Of course, as fans shake their heads as Omaha appears to have given up on the season, the silver lining is that Omaha is potentially going to pick up an additional year of team control on all 3 players just by sending them down for a few weeks to work on the obvious things that need worked on.

“We have no comment on any service time manipulation. Winning is what we care about, and these guys have things they need to work on in order to allow us to achieve the goal. They want to win just as bad as we do. This wasn’t an easy thing to tell this guys, but they understood and are on board.” Said Omaha GM Justin Niles.

When asked about a potential timeline on how long the trio would spend in AAA:

"There is no set timetable. We want to see things worked on that they are struggling with right now. If that takes 5 days, then okay. If that takes 5 years, then so be it. said GM Justin Niles

In corresponding moves, Omaha purchased the contracts of some veteran guys they had in Lincoln. SP Andre Georges and RP Alfonso Javier are expected to join the major league bullpen, with Thomas Rodriguez and Mutsuhito Imai taking the vacated rotation spots from Lima & Dooley.

Veteran outfielder Alfredo Martinez was also called up to the club and will assumedly get some at bats off the bench.
