Denes 'Shadow' Terovolas
Erik Breum has been following the career of right-handed pitcher Ignacio Morales for quite some time. Montreal has repeatedly inquired about the availability of Morales over the last year or more but the Mounties have rebuffed them at every turn. Sources say that this time the talks were lengthy and almost broke down. Bob Breum asked for Miller Shed, whom Vancouver had been dangling in trade, to be added to the deal. This resulted in additional discussion that ultimately led to Montreal including both their closer, Jorge Trinidad, and their setup man, Wlodz Sidelsky, to satisfy Vancouver.

Ignacio Morales
Morales, 20, is the BBN’s #20 prospect. He was originally signed out of Colombia by Charlotte but traded two months later to Vancouver. Scouts project him with pinpoint control and elite pitch movement. His repertoire of four pitches is somewhat pedestrian. His sinker sits around 89-91 mph, complemented by a cutter, changeup, and knuckle curve. With his right-handed sidearm delivery, he is much more effective against right-handed batters than lefties. Scouts praise his work ethic. Last season in Single-A he started 29 games, going 12-5 with a 2.61 ERA (174 ERA+) and a 1.07 WHIP.

Miller 'Cornbread' Shed
Shed, 29, is a veteran left-handed second baseman with excellent range and glovework. He is very skilled at turning the double play. He is expected to take over second base against right-handed pitching, allowing Jaime Serna to play third base in place of Terovolas. That should be a defensive upgrade at both positions. Shed has elite contact skills with an average batting eye but no power. He is very aggressive on the basepaths with plus speed and great baserunning savvy. He hit .280/.335/.362 (101 OPS+) last season against right-handed pitching. Scouts praise his work ethic and baseball IQ.

Jorge Trinidad
Trinidad, 22, has been Montreal’s closer for two seasons. This season he made 63 appearances, converting 39 of 44 save opportunities, with 2.81 ERA (133 ERA+) and 1.17 WHIP. He ranked second in the JL in Saves.

Wlodz 'Mongoose' Sidelsky
Sidelsky, 28, has been Trinidad’s setup man. This season he made 58 appearances with a 1.76 ERA (212 ERA+) and 0.91 WHIP. His ERA and WHIP each ranked second in the JL.
