Máximo Gousto has been filling in at shortstop while the Blazers await the return of Reynaldo Serrano, who is expected back in a week's time. Unfortunately, Gousto has been diagnosed with shoulder bursitis and will be out for at least five weeks. Montreal has purchased the contract of infielder Jeffrey Loring from AA Mississauga; he is expected to play shortstop until Serrano returns. This will be Loring's major league debut.

Máximo Gousto
Gousto, 22, arrived as the star prospect in the Qutuz Mahdi trade but has failed to live up to expectations. This season he has hit .214/.240/.298 (58 OPS+) with six steals in seven attempts while accruing a zone rating of +1.6 in 48 starts. Last season at Single-A Dearborn Heights, his zone rating was +20.5 in 112 starts.

Jeffrey Loring
Loring, 24, was acquired from Madison during the offseason with plans to install him on the Montreal bench as the reserve infielder. He was injured in Spring Training and ended up assigned to AA Mississauga, where he played shortstop, posting a zone rating of +3.2 in 33 starts. This season he has hit .204/.260/.340 (58 OPS+) in AA.
Reynaldo Serrano
Serrano, 28, has yet to play this season, but hit .279/.304/.482 (106 OPS+) last season with 28 doubles, eight triples, 14 home runs, and 23 steals in 25 attempts, good for 2.6 WAR.
