61.22 Johnson Reaches Milestone: 2,000 Hits

The grand old man of the Blazers, 40-year-old Calvin Johnson, recorded hits number 2,000 and 2,001 today at Camden Yards. Very few catchers are still playing big league baseball at the age of forty, and fewer still are donning the tools of ignorance on a regular basis. Yet Johnson has caught 67 games for Montreal so far this season, with a respectable 94 OPS+ and 1.7 WAR. His Catcher's ERA of 4.03 ranks third in the Johnson League.

Johnson is one of only three players remaining on the Blazers' roster from their 2057 Johnson League championship team, with the other two being pitchers Ricardo Negrete, age 36, and Joshua Blenkhorn, age 38.

Johnson is playing on a one-year contract of $4,200,000 and will be a free agent after this season. He has over 20 years in the BBA, having first entered the league in 2041 with Louisville, who selected him in the third round of the 2039 amateur draft. Montreal signed him to a $68,000,000 / five-year contract before the 2056 season. He made the 2056 All-Star team as a Blazer, won the Yogi Zimmer Diamond Glove in 2058, and was named MVP of the Cartwright Cup in 2057. He has accrued 16 WAR during his six seasons with Montreal.
