61.09 Montreal Signs Pitchers Ayala, Barron

Post by Bob Breum » Sun Oct 27, 2024 3:55 pm

Erik Breum, flanked by José Barrón and Augusto Ayala, stepped up to the podium.

"Our pitching was solid last season, but I believe that we have strengthened it significantly with our offseason signings. Please let me introduce you to the latest additions to our family, José Barrón and Augusto Ayala. These are veterans with strong track records of success that bring a wealth of experience to our club.

"They join Samuel Nebraska, Stephen Grant, and Randall Cotton as additions to our big league staff. I am confident that our pitching will be even better than last season.

"Our marketing department tells me that their research shows fan interest up as a result of our offseason work. Ayala's #8 and Grant's #5 jerseys are flying off the shelves."

Ayala's fastball reaches triple digits and his sinker is described as a bowling ball because of the difficulty in lifting it. Last season with Atlantic City, he saved 27 games in 53 appearances with a 2.64 ERA (168 ERA+), allowing only four home runs in 58 innings.

Barrón, at age 35, has difficulty staying on the field, but has been solid when he can. He split last season between Las Vegas and Valencia. He started 14 games with Vegas, going 5-6 with a 4.57 ERA (98 ERA+). He started 5 games with Valencia, going 1-3 with a 3.67 ERA (116 ERA+).

The team has not yet announced how the new pitchers will be utilized.
