58.39 Thompson Hurls "Maddux"

Post by Bob Breum » Wed Apr 03, 2024 11:50 am

Nelson Thompson threw his first complete game of 2058, hurling the Blazers to a 2-0 win over the visiting Gamblers. He was very economical with his pitches, needing only 98 to finish off Atlantic City. He set the tone right way, retiring the side in the first inning on seven pitches. In the third and the eighth, he used only six pitches each.

Thompson's outing qualifies as a "Maddux," named after MLB Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, who was famous for pitching to soft contact and keeping his pitch counts low. A Maddux is defined as a complete game with a pitch count under 100 pitches.

The 34-year-old Thompson is 13-11 on the season, with a 3.79 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 3.0 rWAR. He is in his second BBA season.
