Young prospect Raúl 'Scooter' Gallehos, only 18, got his first taste of the big time last night. Under the lights at Ebbets Field, he rubbed shoulders with other "Future Stars" in the Prospects Game as part of the annual All Star Game festivities.

He entered the game as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, then remained in the game at shortstop. Afterwards, he laughed. "I haven't played much shortstop since my high school days. I did log a few innings there for Nassau, but it felt strange. In my first at-bat, I thought it might carry, but I hit to the deepest part of the park and the wind knocked it down. It felt good to get a hit in my second at-bat."

Drafted in the first round of the 2057 Amateur Draft, Gallehos is a corner infielder for Single-A Dearborn Heights. After spending his first season in rookie ball, this year he started in Short Season A, hitting .349/.388/.698, which earned him a recent promotion. He is the crown jewel of the Blazers farm system, which ranks 24th among the 32 BBA clubs. The Baseball News Network ranks him as the BBA's #22 overall prospect. Scouts project him as an elite power hitter with good contact skills, but fear that he will need to move off third base eventually.

More of a first basemen than a shortstop.

Absolutely. He's playing 3B for now, but he's not very good at it.
