In an under-the-radar transaction, Montreal struck a deal with the Chicago Black Sox to obtain 26-year-old infielder Mike LeBlanc, whom they then invited to spring training as a non-roster invitee. Heading back to the Chicago organization is 17-year-old outfield prospect Robbie Tyre, whom the Blazers drafted in the third round of last year's amateur draft.
Mike LeBlanc
Montreal plans to assign LeBlanc to their AA affiliate, the Mississauga Spartans. LeBlanc is a very skilled infielder, with sure hands, a cannon arm, and quick feet. He has experience at both first base and second base, but the Blazer's plan is to work out LeBlanc at third base. They believe that they can teach him to be an above average defender at the hot corner. Wherever he plays, LeBlanc's bat should play well in Ubisoft, as he has a plus-plus hit tool and elite power to the gaps. Despite his slow foot speed, he excellent baserunning instincts.
Robbie Tyre
Tyre had a strong season in rookie ball with the Oshawa Dodgers, recording a strong slash line of .286/.347/.512. The Blazers organization liked Tyre's bat, but had concerns about his defense. If he had remained with them, they were planning to move him to first base.
