Monty Brewster’s Montré-Booster: Inkster Out-ster

Farewell then, Bill Inkster, as Montreal waves goodbye to their 1100 win manager.

The personable Irishman with his smallball philosophy, Bill rose to prominence in a successful spell at Rockville, where he won the division four straight year . He never captured a Landis, though, three times in a row the Nine fell at the Cartwright Cup stage, before finally losing the championship game in 2041. A second place finish the year after spelt the end of his time in Rockville.

In Montreal, he suffered through five years of a rebuild, with the team never finishing higher than sixth, before eventually overseeing the Blazers’ return to contention – in the last three years Montreal have finished 2nd in the Atlantic twice, and missed the playoffs by one game the year between. Playoff success eluded them again though, with two first-round losses.

The only slight concern about Bill, and the only thing that the vultures in the media could ever cite, was that every single player who came in contact with him – from superstars like Lineu Aldo to up-and-coming prospects like Carl Vincent – absolutely hated him. His likeable Irish charm and brogue, his personable characteristics, his winning record – it all seemed to pale in comparison to what an absolute ****bag he was. A minor issue, to be sure, but one that might have helped convinced the RAMJACK Corporate Headhunting Specialists* that it was time for a change.

Welcome then, utterly untested Bartolo Ortiz, a Puerto Rican who most recently was a pitching coach at R-ball Oshawa in the Blazers organisation. He had previously been a well-thought of high-school coach Shell Oil High School, taking home several division titles in his time there. Executif coach Stan H. Stansman referred to him as a “highly regarded, easy going conventional manager, with a reputation for being cheap and available”, in a statement he later disavowed.

Bill Inkster, lucky like the Irish, unemployed like the Scots

RAMJACK Corporate Headhunting Specialists should not be confused with RAMJACK Talent Acquisition, who literally decapitate people.

Inkster had a famous exit with the Nine in 2042.
