Monty Brewster’s Montré-Booster: Vincent
Look out on a summer's day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Step forward Carl Vincent, Johnson League’s rookie of the month and the starry soul propelling the Montreal Blazers into unlikely early season contention. The Severn, MD native, who sports both the demeanor and the spine of a much older athlete, has become an unlikely star.
Vincent was taken in the 1st round of the 2048 draft as the Blazers bet on his potential, despite a 6.48 ERA in his final year at Pabst. He did, however, have a decent FIP.
Armed with a copy of Moneyball, Blazer executives immediately sent Vincent to AA Missaugua, where he suffered for his sanity, losing 33 games in 59 starts, culminating in disastrous 2-16 season in 2050 with a 4.90 ERA. He did, however, have a decent FIP.
Following that poor performance, 2051 saw Vincent, demoted to A Dearborn Heights where they tried to set him free, but he somehow pitched worse, going 5-10 with a 5.49 ERA at the lower level. He did, however, have a decent FIP.
All this made Vincent a logical choice to be #3 starter in the Blazers rotation this year, where he has bafflingly gone 3-0 with a 1.62 ERA over six starts behind the pitcher’s loving, err, arm. He still has a decent FIP.
They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they'll listen now*
