Where to start with the ugly? Let's start with pitchers Dani Garcia and Juan Ruiz! During the 98 win season of 2046 Garcia posted a 17-5 record and a 3.06 ERA. Two years later he's 10-10 with a 5.38 ERA. Ruiz won 18 games in 2046 with a 3.77 ERA, this year 6-9 with a 6.38. Both were banished to the bullpen but both were also out of options and could not be placed on waivers to work on their game in the minors without being exposed to other teams. Maybe we should have taken that chance because neither improved much in the bullpen.
There were also several hitters on the team that we were counting on to have decent seasons and they failed to post even a positive WAR. Rookie Raul Avila(.203 BA), Hector Cruz(.203 BA), Erik Wignes(.218 BA), and Keith Schultz(.241 BA) were all major disappointments. Cruz even refused to negotiate a contract extension in his walk year putting the team between a rock and a very hard place. Seeing that he wouldn't even bring them a comp pick in the draft since he played so poorly the Blazers attempted to trade the veteran several times but had no takers. So now they are forced to let him walk away with nothing to show except a year and a half of uninspired play from a guy who has more baseball talent than the back of his baseball card may show.
Let's not forget longtime Blazers' infielder Lineu Aldo. Coming off of back to back seasons in which he averaged five WAR the veteran hit well below his career averages and contributing just 0.8 WAR for his lackluster efforts.
Next year is another year but, I know I shouldn't say it, it can't be worse than this year!!
