The Montreal Minute(48:4): A Draft to Forget

Brewster drafts are up and down but the 2048 version has to be the worst collection of draft talent in a long time. In GM Herb DeSpain's first draft with the Blazers he drafted a 1B in the first round with zero intention of signing him in order to get two first round picks in the much better 2045 draft. It worked out as Montreal took pitchers Davey Penn and Flynn Lewis and both have already contributed to the major league team.

This year is one of those drafts like 2045. The talent level is low past the top five or so and now general managers will have to consider the same draft and walk strategy that Montreal used to get Penn & Lewis. The big question is, will next year's crop of young players be any better? Drafting 26th the Blazers took LHP Carl Vincent out of Pabst Blue college. Vincent is a curious case, while with the Ribbons his ERA, WHiP, and HR/9IP went up every season. The Blazers think he can eventually pitch in the BBA, probably in the bullpen, but there is a very real possibility they will let him walk and take the comp pick in 2049.
Montreal Blazers(BBA) 2044~2047(353-295, .545 W%)
2045 Wildcard(lost in one round)
2046 Atlantic Champs(lost in one round)
