Montreal Post First Losing Month of the Season!!
.....
.....
Everyone was waiting for it to happen. After the Montreal Blazers played .650 baseball over the first three months of the season every one around the BBA was waiting for them to come back to earth. In July it happened. Things would have been much worse if not for a four game winning streak to close the month but the final 12-14 record was enough to drop the Blazers into second place behind a red hot Rockville squad. Ace Don Jaramillo started six games and allowed just 10 earned runs but managed just two wins in a tough offensive month for Montreal. He allowed just one base on balls against 28 strike outs. The bullpen trio of In-sung Yi, Bill O'Connor, and rookie Flynn Lewis all had great months despite the lack of support from the lineup. O'Connor didn't allow a single run in his 12 innings pitched while Lewis allowed just one run against 16 strikeouts in 14 innings.
No lineup regular hit over .283 for July. Manoell Whanon hit only .260 for the month but he slugged a team best .500 with 15 extra base hits, 15 runs scored, 11 RBI, and six steals. Lineu Aldo was the only other bright spot with a .283 batting average and 14 RBI. The bats will have to wake up if the Blazers are going to secure a playoff spot in a very competitive Atlantic Division.
