..... Ten Game Win Streak Propels Montreal! .....

The Montreal Blazers took the BBA by surprise in 2045 when they won 91 games and made the post season as a Johnson League wildcard. What they got heading into the 2046 season was a prediction of just 85 wins and a fringe playoff spot. What Montreal fans received to start the 2046 campaign was the best record in the Johnson League after one month of play. Entering play on May 1 the Blazers boast a 17-10 record, a 102 win pace for a full season. "It's been pretty balanced so far," said third year starter and staff ace Don Jaramillo. "Don't let him BS you like that," yelled veteran IF Angel Zalapa. "Pitching has carried this club just like it did last most of last season...especially him." Jaramillo is the obvious Ace of a starting staff that has look very good through April. He is among the league leaders with a tiny 1.19 ERA. He's given up just one base on balls against 19 strike outs but he's not the only one pitching well. The starting rotation finished April with a 15-5 record and a 3.35 ERA. All this without highly anticipated rookie Arsenio Lambrinos(out for the year with injury) and veteran In-sung Yi(moved to the bullpen). "We didn't want to pull Yi back into the rotation after telling him all offseason he'd be in the bullpen," noted Blazers' GM Herb DeSpain. "He's not started off the way we thought he would and our manager is maybe not using him the way we envisioned he would be used but those are things we can easily fix."

At the plate there is a lot of inconsistency but contributions are coming from everyone. The team boast eight players with double digit runs scored and seven players with double digit runs batted in after one month of play. "Since I've been here I cannot remember a time when Lineu Aldo and Eduardo Gonzalez have both been hot at the same time," said DeSpain. "But that is exactly what we've seen the first month of 2046 and it's awesome!" Gonzalez has slipped a bit since his hot start but Aldo heads to May holding a .366 batting average and 20 extra base hits. "I know I'm going good when the ball is hitting the gaps," Aldo told a reporter. After leading the Johnson League with 99 extra base hits in 2044, Aldo dropped to just 61 last season. He's on pace to hit over 100 so far in 2046. The biggest disappointment on offense has to be the only impact free agent that Montreal signed. DH Bartolo Ortiz was brought in to add some power to the lineup against right handed pitching but he has been ineffective early with a .685 IPS and with Rockville on their heels the Blazers cannot afford to let him take too long to find his stroke. "It's important for the team and for Ortiz for him to get going," DeSpain explained. "He didn't want a multi-year deal, he wanted a one year deal to prove to the rest of the league that he can still play...so it's in all of our best interest that he start hitting soon!"
