The Montreal Minute(46:4): Roster Construction(Bench)

If Bartolo Ortiz doesn't work out then Jose Garcia is next in line for the DH role against righties. Garcia had a positive WAR season with 38 extra base hits in just over 400 plate appearances in 2045. He's an even cheaper alternative than Ortiz at less than $1.5 million.

Infielder Theodosio Narcisio is a strange player. At just 25 years old he's earned the respect of his teammates and is considered a team leader. BUT he's never hit at the BBA level and many around the league wonder how long he'll be allowed to lead the team without producing on the field. Just like Agniruha Gaekwad in the bullpen, his chances may be running out. If he does well this season he could be in contention for replacing Angel Zalapa as the starting second baseman in 2047 should the Blazers decline the veteran's option.

Gilberto Villanueva will get his at bats despite not being a starter at the beginning of the 2046 season. With the team carrying just four true outfielders on the roster Villanueva will see two to three starts per week giving the others rest throughout the season. And there is always the threat of injury or poor performance by one of the others that could open the door for more playing time.

Last season Montreal carried two Rule V draftees but they were both pitchers. This season it is 20 year old catcher Cheng-ji Ouyang getting a spot on the Blazers' roster via the Rule V draft. Ouyang is already a decent hitter who will love the alleys at Ubisoft Field. His fielding is not good but his arm is a weakness. Barring injuries to either Bradshaw or Cheron he won't see a lot of playing time but he would do well to observe and learn from his veteran counterparts.
