..... Blazers Win Last Five in July! .....
.....
It was a strange month in what has been a strange 2045 season for the Montreal Blazers. The Blazers July with a +8 run differential thanks to a five game winning streak to end the month. They had been negative in that most important statistic for the entire 2045 season but had managed to continue fighting for a playoff spot that most say they don't deserve. "It's been great to watch as a life long Blazers' fan." said 25 year old Mitch Freeman who is now a pitcher for the Boise Spuds. "When they pitch poorly the bats come through and when they hit poorly the pitching comes through." Others disagree. "They've just been lucky." added New Orleans' veteran OF Lionel Crepin. "I've seen it before and things will even out in the end. This miserable band of misfits will be watching the playoffs from home." Montreal has surprised pretty much everyone that pays attention to the BBA. They were predicted to win 80 games but are now on pace to win 91. Can they keep it up?

Montreal put a revolving door at the bullpen gate during the month of July. 14 different pitchers took the mound for the Blazers' including IF Lineau Aldo who pitched one inning in a blowout loss to Edmonton on July 17. Only three pitchers finished with an ERA under four for July so it's safe to say that pitcher, particularly the bullpen, has been a problem. The one constant, and only Montreal All-Star in 2045, has been stopper Carlton Casson who saved five games in seven appearances while posting a 1.80 ERA in 10 relief innings. Heading into August Casson is second in the Johnson League in saves and just five away from his 2044 total of 29. Rule 5 draftee Isaac Lawrence also had a very good month out of the pen with a 3.05 ERA in 20+ innings.

At the plate 3B Eduardo Gonzalez continues to swing the bat well leading the Blazers with six homers and 22 RBI in July. Gonzalez hit .368 for the month and his OPS 1.017. He leads Montreal with nine Player of the Game awards. CF Manoel Whanon also boasted a strong month hitting .371 with 18 runs scored and nine steals and catcher Joe Bradshaw hit .294 in July after struggling the first three months of the season. This comes on the heels of a brutal June that saw him hit just .150! As a whole the team should not be where it is in the playoff race. They rank in the top half of Johnson League teams in just four statistical categories: RS(T5), XBH(6), HR(T6), and SPERA(3).
