..... This Is Not The Deal You're Looking For! .....

The Montreal Blazers made a deal today but it was not the deal everyone was expecting. After another horrible outing by starter Lance Harrison yesterday, the buzz around the league was that Harrison would be out of Montreal by the end of today. Instead it was 25 year old bullpen arm Raul Luna who was sent to division rival Jacksonville. Luna has struggled this season, some would say more than Harrison, carrying an ERA in double digits for most of the young season. Ironically Luna pitched three scoreless innings in yesterday's game that saw Harrison last just 2/3 of an inning. "We wanted to send Raul down but he was out of options," explained Montreal GM Herb DeSpain. "And we knew he wouldn't clear waivers...so we took the best deal we could get for him."

The best deal was a one for one swap with the Hurricanes for 16 year old OF Abbud Yushua. "Yushua is years away but our scouts say he works very hard and the raw skills are there." DeSpain said. "This was about getting something for Luna. We are trying to win now and we needed to move him off the active roster and we wanted to get something in return." Yushua, who hails from Egypt, will report to Montreal's rookie league team.

"At least I'll get some sun," Luna commented as he was seen leaving the Blazers clubhouse after cleaning out his locker has played in Omaha and Montreal the past four seasons. This is his third trade and Jacksonville will be his fourth trade.

Many in the Montreal organization were hoping to see 19 year old Arsenio Limbrios but DeSpain had other thoughts. "If this were last season then I'd probably bring up Limbrios," DeSpain told reporters. "But he's struggling in AAA this year and he needs more time." Limbrios pitched 18+ innings in AAA last season and gave up just two earned runs. This year he's pitched 24+ innings in AAA and given up 14 runs. Instead it will be veteran Constantino Teixeira, who has pitched very well for AAA New Jersey, that will get the call to the big leagues.

Yushua is young, but at least he's seen some development before jumping into R ball.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.

I needed to get Luna off my active roster and he was out of options. Just happy to get something for him.
