Just as the headline alluded to, the hitting was so bad in 2044 that it made the Blazers' pitching staff look better than it was. The pitching was actually a little bit worse than it was in 2043 but it's still a young staff and it may get even younger in 2045. Montreal finally decided what to do with super stud Carlton Casson who spent the entire 2043 season as a hitter. Casson joined the big league bullpen out of camp and didn't disappoint. Despite normal rookie ups and downs Casson was named a Johnson League All-Star, finished second in the Johnson Reliever of the Year Award voting, and second in the Johnson Rookie of the Year voting. At times he was inconsistent(6.64 July ERA vs 2.78 overall ERA) but a year of experience should help in that regard.
Another Rookie, Don Jaramillo, led the Montreal staff with 219 innings and 13 wins. He finished right behind Casson in the Johnson League Rookie of the Year voting. Including Jaramillo the rotation was reliable if nothing else. Five pitchers started at least 27 games including Dani Garcia(12-8, 3.86, 103 K) who was acquired in early May. In-sung Yi(11-13, 3.89, 221 K), Jorge Moreno(10-13, 4.07, 201 K), and Lance Harrison(12-7, 5.22, 142 K).
