42.10 - Blazers Weekly: Blazers move into tie for 2nd in Atlantic Division

The Montreal Blazers played 6 games this week. Starting off with finishing up their 4 game set vs the Wichita Aviators before a off day and then a 2 game set vs Boise Spuds. Last night they played game 1 of a 4 game set that continues next week vs 1st place New Orleans Crawdads.

MONDAY, APRIL 14TH, 2042 Montreal Blazers (6-5) Image @ Image Wichita Aviators (8-3)
The Wichita Aviators topped the Montreal Blazers, 4-3, with shortstop Jim Gouzzie playing a big role. Gouzzie went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Aviators in the win. Abe Colbert, Jr. got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. The Aviators keep rolling, raising their record to 9-3.

For the Blazers CF Casimiro Mouriz went 1 for 3 with a base on balls. 2B Lineu Aldo(4) , RF Kevin MacKeith(2) , CF Casimiro Mouriz all got a stolen base. SS Wagaw Fakihi tried to join the club and get his 4th of the season but he was thrown out.

Gouzzie had a critical at-bat in the bottom of the third for Wichita, coming through with a 2-run home run to put Wichita in front, 3-0.

In postgame comments to the Wichita Daily News, Gouzzie said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

TUESDAY, APRIL 15TH, 2042 Montreal Blazers (6-6) Image @ Image Wichita Aviators (9-3)

The Montreal Blazers bested the Wichita Aviators by a score of 6-4, with designated hitter José García getting the main credit. On the day, García went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Blazers. Lance Harrison got the win, improving to 2-0. He worked 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 4. Losses have been few and far between for the Aviators so far this season. Their record drops to 9-4.

Montreal used the timely hitting of Jim Antolin to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Blazers on top, 6-2. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Joe Whitaker picked up the save, his 4th of the season, he pitched a shutout 9th inning allowing onlyn 1 hit.

"We take it day by day here," said García, "and today was a good one for us."

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16TH, 2042 Montreal Blazers (7-6) Image @ Image Wichita Aviators (9-4)
Montreal catcher Ares Papadias had a 3-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Wichita Aviators, 10-4. The winner was Montreal reliever Mario Pineda, now 1-1. The loser was Duane Coutts. The win moves Montreal to a record of 8-6.

Montreal relied on the hitting of Carlos Muñóz to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run single in the top of the fourth inning to put the Blazers on top, 7-3. For the game, Muñóz had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Muñóz.

FRIDAY, APRIL 18TH, 2042 Boise Spuds (7-7) Image @ Image Montreal Blazers (8-6) The Montreal Blazers picked up a win at Ubisoft Field, knocking off the Boise Spuds, 5-3. Starting pitcher Jorge Moreno played a key role in the triumph. Moreno got the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 3 hits and walked 4 over 7 innings. Moreno allowed 2 earned runs. The Spuds drop to 7-8 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2042 season.

Montreal took control in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Jassiem Dukuzumuremyi hit a 2-run double to make it 4-2, Blazers.

"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Moreno said after the game.

SATURDAY, APRIL 19TH, 2042 Boise Spuds (8-7) Image @ Image Montreal Blazers (9-6) The Boise Spuds picked up a win at Ubisoft Field, knocking off the Montreal Blazers, 4-2. Starting pitcher Frank Metcalf, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Metcalf went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-1. Tom Warren closed the game out for Boise, earning his 3rd save.

Boise used a timely hit from Sancho Castillo to get the win. The third baseman delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the second inning to put the Spuds on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Castillo told the Boise News.

The loss drops Montreal to 9-7.

SUNDAY, APRIL 20TH, 2042 New Orleans Crawdads (11-5) Image @ Image Montreal Blazers (9-7) Montreal pitcher Tadamichi Ando did his part in helping his team beat the New Orleans Crawdads, 7-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The win gives the Blazers a record of 10-7.

Ando, now 2-2, scattered 5 hits over 9 innings for the Blazers.

22 year old Casimiro Mouriz led the Blazers offense, going 3 or 5 with 3 RBI. He also added a solo homerun in the bottom of the 2nd. DH José García added 2 doubles on the day, his 3rd and 4th of the season; 1st Inning off Yoshimatsu Yamaguchi & 8th Inning again off Yamaguchi.

"I was determined to go the distance," said Ando. I guess according to Ando, the distance is 7.1 innings pitched.
