42.09 - Blazers Weekly: Finally have a win in new ballpark

Game 1: Rockville Pikemen (1-5) Image @ Image Montreal Blazers (4-2) Dan Cannon could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Rockville Pikemen lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Montreal Blazers at Ubisoft Field. Joe Whitaker recorded his 2nd save for Montreal. The Blazers, now 4-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.

Lineu Aldo took Dan Cannon deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Blazers on top, 2-0. In all, Aldo had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Aldo.

Game 2: Rockville Pikemen (1-6) Image @ Image Montreal Blazers (5-2) Montreal Blazers starter Tadamichi Ando was in a rhythm all game. He led his team to a win over the Rockville Pikemen, 9-1. Montreal, now 5-2, has played well in the early going.

Rafael Solís came through for Montreal with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 2 runs batted in.

"This team is real focused right now," said Montreal manager Tomás Valdéz.

Game3: Rockville Pikemen (1-7) Image @ Image Montreal Blazers (6-2) The Rockville Pikemen got a superb performance from designated hitter Lorenzo Palácios. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Montreal. The Blazers won the game, 11-8. In spite of the loss, Palácios was named the player of the game. He went 2-2 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 3 runs. Montreal, at 6-2, is off to a blistering start.

Eduardo González hit a 2-run home run off Rogerio Vázquez in the bottom of the first, which put the Blazers ahead, 2-0. In addition to the homer, González had 1 double, while going 2 for 5.

"I like the roll we're on," said Montreal manager Tomás Valdéz.

After the 3 games sweep of Rockville, it was time to hit the road for a quick 2 game set in Las Vegas.

Game1: Montreal Blazers (6-3) Image @ Image Las Vegas Hustlers (3-6) The Las Vegas Hustlers topped the Montreal Blazers by the score of 9-3, with the largest share of the credit going to first baseman Otto Altaner. Altaner was 2 for 3 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Hustlers. Las Vegas reliever Shawn Huber got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Mario Pineda was tagged with the loss. Las Vegas is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 3rd in 9 games.

The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Altaner delivered big-time for Las Vegas, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Arturo Trinidad. The game-changing hit put the Hustlers on top, 4-3.

"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Altaner told the Las Vegas Herald. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."

Game2: Montreal Blazers (6-4) Image @ Image Las Vegas Hustlers (4-6) The Montreal Blazers wasted an inspired, 6.1-inning effort from starter Jorge Moreno, falling 2-1 to the Las Vegas Hustlers at The Casino by Moe Fugger. Las Vegas, now 4-6, is off to a slow start.

Miguel Rodríguez was a prime contributor to the Las Vegas win. He went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the fourth with two out, the 29-year old shortstop hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 2-0, in favor of the Hustlers.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Las Vegas manager Edward Allen said.
