Montreal Off-season moves 40.1

Post by handaspencer » Tue Sep 24, 2019 1:16 pm

After finishing 61-101 in 2039 changes was certainly in store for Montreal as the off season approached. Conservative would be the best word to describe GM Spencer and his off season accomplishments. Its clearly obvious that finances have been a huge driving force behind the Blazers plans as they will have over 50 million coming off the books in 2041 just as many of their young prospects are projected to arrive to the show. This just didn't feel like the right off season to commit to any long term FA said GM Spencer. We will take a look at some of the acquisitions the Blazers made.

Manager Tomas Valdez was brought in due to his fiery personality, to light a fire under this team! Many of the cancers on this team have been replaced and the team chemistry has already improved. As the prospects begin to arrive having the right culture around them will be vital.

Dusty Rhodes while everyone in the BBA continues to debate Dusty Rhodes and his Hall of Fame candidacy he will continue to make his case for the hall in a Blazers uniform. Montreal gave Rhodes more money for this season that he earned the past 3 seasons combined. We wanted to have a guy the fan base would be excited to come out and see. It appears to be working as attendance projections are soaring with his arrival. Sometimes you have to overpay a certain player to get benefits in other areas.

Rafael Solis was brought in via trade with Calgary. Not happy with the corner OF options in FA Solis was brought in to bridge the gap until Jim Antolin arrives which could be sooner than later. Antolin will start the season in AAA with the hopes he can start the season strong after struggling last offseason. The LF position is his but it won't be handed to him. Solis is that guy to hold the spot down and eventually will move to the backup corner spot.

unwilling to pay the high price for FA catchers the Blazers settled on Don Logan behind the plate. Logan will strictly be a 1 year rental as his defensive ability is not what the Blazers front office desires behind the plate. He will provide the ability to get on base for the Blazers and with the added offensive options arriving that will certainly help.

Susumu Nakanishi was claimed off waivers and will provide the pop that was much needed in the Blazers middle of the lineup. Despite rating drops GM Spencer felt he was worth a shot for this season until future star Eduardo Gonzalez arrives.

This will be the season where you can see several of the prospects begin to arrive. The club is eyeing former 3rd round pick Wagaw Fakihi who has soared through the Blazers system and is working hard to earn his spot on the Blazers roster as the starting SS. He will also start the season in AAA to continue to prove his readiness but he could contribute to 2040 early in the season.

Also look out for Lineu Aldo who could also emerge in 2040. Despite struggling early in his career 2039 was his year to figure it out. If he continues to develop well like last year 2040 is a possibility for him to arrive.

Montreal needs pitching like every other organization. At some point in 2040 Jorge Moreno could be that spark plug the rotation is looking for. He needs to spend additional time in AAA after struggling last season. But the opportunity is there for him to contribute to the Blazers this season.
