Montreal Silent 1.2

Post by handaspencer » Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:50 am

Apparently new GM Spencer didn't get the memo that the offseason has started. After making an explosive trade with Omaha on the eve of free agency it has become quiet as church on a Sunday morning. The organization hinted this trade could be their big offseason move, and they could be quiet during the offseason. But did anyone expect them to be this quiet?

In a war comparison they have lost 6.4 in total war which is near the bottom of the league and many of the top free agents have already signed. There has been some smoke indicating that the Blazers do have a few targets in mind but due to payroll concerns need the prices to drop before they get involved. The Blazers did pick Jassiem Dukuzumuremyi in the rule v draft but there is uncertainty he actually makes the active roster and could be returned to the Long Beach Surfers if he is released. In a waiver claim from the Yellow Springs Nine Eduardo Reyes was acquired and he will start the season in AAA with the River Rats with the mission of developing a 3rd pitch to serve as a spot starter in the future.

On a positive note the Blazers have been active at the minor league level and made numerous minor league level signings. There was an enormous amount of relievers and 1B in the system and many of them have been released and replaced with the new signings. If you asked the front office they would probably indicate they have been happy with the offseason but there is a growing sense among the fan base that they are sitting back on their heels and doing nothing. GM Spencer indicated he appreciates the fans enthusiasm but he will make decisions that is best for the organization even though it might not satisfy the fan base. It certainly appears the honeymoon is over but to his defense winning the offseason don't always translate to wins on the field. Ultimately this organization will be judged by wins and losses and not by total transactions. Could this be the calm before the storm? We will find out shortly as spring is closing in.
