Projected Blazers Rotation - 2034
Projected Blazers Rotation - 2034
Montreal
One outside addition combined with an internal addition contributes to the very positive outlook on the starting staff in Montreal in 2034. This could very well be the top rotation in the league if they are able to stay somewhat healthy. Combined with a very healthy offense, this could be a fun summer in Montreal. The rotation projects like this:
1) Jubal Troop - Not sure what else could be said about the defending Nebraska winner..oh ya, he got two talent bumps this offseason. Both his stuff and movement went up by one rating. Hard to believe his stuff could actually go higher then it already was. Troop already posses an electric arm and was an innings eater last season despite being on a pitch count. If he can have anywhere close to the season he had last year then we are off to the races..
2) Jesus Ramos - Starters two through five could really go in any order but the Blazers would prefer to have a vet follow a younger pitcher in the rotation. Ramos was acquired late last year from Las Vegas. He was solid, but not spectacular in his 7 starts with the team. A 3-4 record with a decent 3.40 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. Another power pitcher with a very heavy sinker ball should be a very nice number two guy who does a very good job of keeping the ball on the ground.
3) Manuel Pena - The hard throwing knuckleballer, yes I said that, enjoyed a strong first full season. Splitting the season between Havana-oooh-na-na, and Montreal, he posted a record of 13-5. Manager Kayne Grandage likes the idea of the knuckleballer slotting in the middle of the roation to give the other teams a completely different look. The Spanish right hander is a very quiet guy who just shows up and takes the mound every 5th day.
4) Jesus Tonche - A free agent signing by the team, the veteran Tonche should pitch out of the four spot on the staff. The durable righty has lost a little over the years but is still capable of putting up respectable numbers. Last season with Jacksonville he won 14 games and posted a 3.6WAR. Tonche will be counted on to help mentor some of the younger pitchers on this blossoming Blazers staff.
5) Aki Kondo - The rookie right hander acquired from, yes you guessed it, Havana-oooh-na-na, is projected to be the number five guy in the rotation this year. Another pure stuff pitcher, Kondo posses three plus major league pitches and is an extremely hard thrower. He will most likely be on a strict pitch and innings limit this season. One of the reasons he will pitch out of the number five spot is to ease some of the pressure and to have Troop follow him in the rotation.
If the projections hold true, this rotation is sure to be one of the tops in the league and for Blazers fans hopefully lead them to the glory land not seen since waaaayyyy back in 2011.

I just hope Tonche doesn't teach Troop or Ramos how to throw a changeup. Also sad that he's Montreal's #4 and would have likely been our Opening Day starter, lol.

In all fairness to you, he just as easily could be #2 in mine. This is just the way I chose to set it up.udlb58 wrote:I just hope Tonche doesn't teach Troop or Ramos how to throw a changeup. Also sad that he's Montreal's #4 and would have likely been our Opening Day starter, lol.

He still has Gillstrom, so I'm sure he'd be fine with it.JohnC wrote:I was going to put Kondo as #2, but I wasn't sure what that would do to Randy..usnspecialist wrote:i personally would have tonche over ramos, but john clearly has what he is doing.udlb58 wrote:I just hope Tonche doesn't teach Troop or Ramos how to throw a changeup. Yes, he will of course be fine. It was a joke. Kondo was the player that the Gillstrom deal kinda hinged on near the end. Randy didn't want to give him up.udlb58 wrote:He still has Gillstrom, so I'm sure he'd be fine with it.JohnC wrote:[quote="
