Shocking Gillstrom Trade - 2033

Montreal

In a shocking move today, the Montreal Blazers have dealt all world shortstop Jared Gillstrom to Havana. There had been whispers that the team was shopping him during the season but the deal has sent shock waves through the fan base. "We have been spinning our wheels for several seasons now. We needed to do a reset instead of a rebuild," said GM Callahan. The team needed to get younger as well as restock the cupboard of prospects. "I think this deal accomplishes a couple of things for us. We have added some young developed major league talent, as well as adding a couple of higher end prospects to our system," added Callahan. A breakdown of the players coming to Montreal is as follows:

SP Manuel Pena - A really interesting young starter who has a tremendous knuckleball. He is just getting his feet wet at the major league level but is already an upgrade to a shaky Blazers staff.

OF Robert Gowron - Possibly not a long term solution but he is a powerful guy who should help offset the offense lost by dealing Gillstrom. He also is a slight upgrade in his outfield defense which has been an issue in Montreal.

SS Luis Gonzalez - A young major league shortstop with good speed and improving defense. He is capable of being a decent average hitter.

OF Juan Santana - A young prospect currently in AA. Projects as being a good average hitter with decent power and plus speed.

SP Aki Kondo - A young hard throwing right handed starter. His stuff is off the charts, and he projects to have good control. The issue for him is his movement. Blazers believe his plus stuff and velocity should help make up for this.

A tough deal to judge for sure. Time will tell how this deal impacts the team in the future. If the prospects develop it will certainly help the fans overcome the loss of Gillstrom.
