Gillstrom Signs For More..and Less - 2032
Montreal
Montreal Blazers announced this week that superstar shortstop Jared Gillstrom had signed a 6 year contract extension that will pay him on average $13m per season. Yes, that is right..$13m per season. That is a salary that doesn't even rank the 2 time Silver Slugger, and arguably best player in the league, in the top 25 of the league. Now, as is the case with any long term contract, if the lump monster comes out and takes a chunk out of Gillstrom, then this contract would quickly go from being one of the best in the league to a bad one for the Blazers. There have already been whispers around the league that Gillstrom has lost a step defensively at shortstop. The numbers do not support that theory as Gillstrom had maybe his second best season ever with the mitt posting a 14.9ZR. However, it has been suggested within the organization that perhaps moving him to third base sometime in the near future may benefit both him and the team.
Perhaps the best part of the contract is the flexibility it gives management if the time comes where the team decides to explore trading Gillstrom. The last 3 seasons of the contract are $12.5m. That is the kind of cap number that other teams can work with in a potential trade. Now don't go getting your panties in a knot Blazers fans. That doesn't mean the team is/has/or will look to deal Gillstrom, but is certainly nice to have the flexibility to do so if the need arises. He is the kind of franchise player that can help start a rebuild pretty quickly of the team decides to deal him at some point during the term of his contract.

Shoot, I don't care if he lumps defensively to just a DH. As long as he can still hit like he does, that's a great deal. Everything else is gravy.

There's no way this could be a bad deal. It could be a less good deal.
If Gillstrom makes an excess of $6 million a year over $13 million (an extremely likely outcome), this deal just about pays for itself in four seasons.

Photos like that are apparently known in the private detective business as "a great set of hooters."
Infantile, I know, but private eyes are a twisted group, eh?
