Jeff Hartle, acquired from Louisville in the Will Craig trade, was given a three-year contract extension by Carolina that could be five years with two team options.
"Carolina obviously wanted me around for a long time, and they showed that by offering me this deal," said Hartle. "I just hope that I can throw well for them and perform as well as I know I can."
The deal carries $3.6 million in guaranteed money and another possible $2.4 million for years 4 and 5. Carolina said that they were thrilled to come to this agreement.
"We think that Jeff's a much better pitcher than he's shown in Louisville and we're going to give him every opportunity to prove it," said pitching coach Jesus Rodriguez. "We have a great deal of faith in him."
Hartle has a career 19-19 record with a career 5 flat ERA.

That should be almost exactly how much he should be remembered by anyone. I have higher hopes for him than most.
