Wise Kraken 10.3: Todd Clay Shows Star Potential

Todd Clay was the key piece in the Jacob Bryant deal, and while Carolina fans watched Bryant hit 21 homers in 71 games for the Vancouver Mounties, they were able to satisfy themselves with Clay's performance. Clay posted a .426 OBP in 68 games for the Kraken after the deal and was 16th in the league in OBP for the season.

"That's the type of hitter I am," said Clay. "I pick my spots, I whack the ball around the ballpark, I take pitches. It's what I do."

Clay was easily the best hitter for the MBWBA's arguably worst offense down the stretch, and he'll start the year as the #2 or #3 hitter every day for Carolina. Clay, a solid doubles hitter, is expected to post more than the 14 extra-base hits than he had in 68 games after the deal next year, but Carolina will take what Clay gives them as long as he keeps getting on base.

"We picked up Todd to be a certain type of hitter, and he did what he was supposed to do," said manager Jose Deleon. "We couldn't hope for anything more out of Todd than he gave us."
