The Bullwhip - 1996.1 - Boulton Hired as GM
The Record
July 11th, 1996
Hackensack, New Jersey
********************************
The Hackensack Bulls held a news conference yesterday at Hoffa Park to announce the hiring of new general manager Brian Boulton. A veteran GM of numerous professional baseball leagues, Boulton has been tagged by fellow Canadian and owner of the Bulls, Spike Nolan, as the long term solution for the franchise after a brief one year stint by the departed Matthew Bornac.
Said Boulton to the press: "I'm very excited for the opportunity given to me by Mr. Nolan. My family and I are thrilled to be coming to Hackensack and I'm eager to get to work learning the MBBA."
Boulton hasn't wasted any time either, as numerous changes were made within hours of taking over the Bulls. In his first organzational move, manager Jose Deleon (36) and bench coach Antonio Gonzalez (60) have traded places, an interesting move to say the least. But with 29 years experience to Deleon's 5 years, Boulton believes the highly talented Gonzalez has much more to offer than just being the voice in Deleon's ear. In other moves, Bulls prospects have started shuttling all over the eastern United States between the three minor league affiliates of the Bulls, Gatlinburg, TN., Winston-Salem, NC. and Eau Claire, WIS as Boulton coordinates a major re-organization of the team's minor league rosters. Pitcher Ken Quinney, 21 years old, has been summoned from AAA Gatlinburg to join the Bulls and has immediately been named the club's Closer, giving the Bulls a high control, 98 mph capable, 4 pitch right hander to anchor the pen. Reliever Damario Poso has been closing games and is a lackluster 3-10 with a 3.73 ERA and 15 saves, probably 10 more losses than Boulton was willing to tolerate.
With the trade deadline approaching, more moves are sure to come from within the Bulls' front offices.

Quinney's been impressive in his brief time as closer.
And I don't think anyone's every said they're happy to be in Hackensack.

Leave it to Boulton to breathe some life into this league via trades.

You hear that, guys? Brian thinks we have a good league. Now, just keep making trades with him. Yes, now, that's the way. Good boys.
