Sticking Points 2056.2: Awful Enough for Nawful

This is a quick report from a bumpy train ride typed on my phone. Please excuse any typos.

Starting pitchers giving up runs in bunches, struggling to make it through 6 innings. Relief pitchers taking turns giving up leads in 8-6 shootouts. And now, a spate of short-term injuries as the Rockville Pikemen dig themselves a 10-22 hole. The organization has decided that things have gotten awful enough to call up top prospect, starting pitcher Dabir Nawful for a look-see.

"What the hell," said manager Denny Dooley when Nawful's callup was announced. "It's a little ahead of schedule, but we're going ti see how he does in the pen and take it from there."

In 6 starts at AAA Dodge City, Nawful dominated batters, going 4-0 with a 1.51 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Meanwhile, with Jon Keys on the IL for a few weeks, veteran Adrian Custello, in his first start since 2054, was, shall we say, rusty, failing to get out of the second inning. Custello will get at least another turn or two in the rotation, but it will be interesting to watch how Nawful reacts to his first week or two in the bigs.

Or desperate. I'm always falling behind on my TNs. It's embarrassing.
