With news that ace Danny Leach is going to accept his opt-in for $24 million per year over the next 3 years, the Rockville Pikemen are faced with once more needing to get under the salary cap for the 2051 season. The most likely casualty is 2B Rocky Wattson, who is due for a team option on the final year of his $12.5 million contract. Compounding matters is the likelihood that former Pikemen 2B Daniel Peppers will accept his payer opt-in with the Vancouver Mounties, which will put Rockville on the hook 50% of a $30 million contract over each of the next 2 years. With CF Rocky Allen, another 2050 midseason acquisition, heading for free agency, the return of "Rocky 1 & 2" is not in the cards.
In other news, the Pikemen sent corner OF Pablo Lara, who slashed .268/.338/.402 last season, to the El Paso Chilis for pithing prospect Luis Gonzalez, the 10th overall pick in the 2048 draft. The deal may open a spot for Qadir bin Gamal, who missed most of last season with a fractured ankle. It's also possible that the Pikemen will acquire a righthanded hitting corner outfielder to offset their lefty-heavy lineup.
