After missing the playoffs in 2049 for the first time in 15 seasons, the Rockville Pikemen jump started a desired return to the postseason over the course of a 7-game winning streak.
"It's not even May," cautioned manager Denny Dooley, after a 10-3 drubbing of the second-place New Orleans Crawdads, "but I like the balance this squad is showing."
Balance comes in the form of starting pitchers delivering quality starts, although in the case of staff ace Danny Leach and his 4-0 record, quality comes with a capital Q. "It's simple, if you trust your catchers," explains Leach, who has tossed gems to both starting catcher Manuel Moreno and backup Heui-seong Park.
Rockville fans were not pleased by the trade of star 2B Daniel Pepper for prospects, but new GM Jim Slade made no bones about wanting to balance out the organization's top-heavy depth. "Long term," Slade has been saying to anyone who will listen, "we need waves of talent."
One of the team's key new contributors has been utility man Juan Hernandez, who Slade signed from his old Mumbai team in the UMEBA. "No player bugged us more about playing time," Slade chuckled. "Juan's got a half dozen ways to contribute."
"Yeah," Dooley picked up, "he finds an excuse to stop by my office everyday and drop hints about his readiness to start. I may have to run him out of the bullpen now and then."

Re: Sticking Points 2050.1: Jump Start
I started doing a 6-man rotation a couple of seasons ago in my other league, as my team went from horrendous to mildly competitive. I was basically doing in-season auditions for my future staff. Last season, with a good team, I kept it up for half of the sims, slotting a lefty swingman in and out, depending on matchups. This season, I've got a great, aging pitcher coming off an injury that kept him out all of last season. I also have 2 other starters in their mid-30s, so I've been on a 6-man rotation all year. I'll tighten it for the postseason.
