The Rockville Pikemen are one of the premier dynasties in the BBA, having made the playoffs in each of the past ten seasons, the second-highest active streak behind Sacramento. Only a handful of teams have ever done this. However, after Rockville made history early on the dynasty by going to three straight Landis Memorial Series, they haven't been back since - until now. Rockville finished off perhaps the three top teams in the Johnson League on their way to their first Landis in over half a decade, sweeping the Charm City Jimmies for their fourth pennant in nine years.
"This one is especially sweet because I didn't know if it was ever going to happen again," said DH Lorenzo Palacios, one of the few players on the roster who was there the last time Rockville won a pennant. "We've never done it from a wild card either so that was new."
Rockville attempts now to enter some rare air as far as titles go. If the Pikemen win this title, they'll be the third team in BBA history to win three titles in eight years, though they'll still trail the two greatest dynasties in the modern era, the 2001-2009 Las Vegas Hustlers (five titles) and the 2012-2019 New Orleans Crawdads (four titles).
"One day at a time, one game at a time, but it's very special," said SP Arthur Dempster, who along with Palacios, Pedro Diaz, Dan Cannon, Nick Snyder, Derrick Falter, and Dave Martin are the only players on the team who were with the Pikemen the last time they won a title. "We've seen a lot of new faces but there's still so much here that's made it through the years."
To put this another way, the last time Rockville won a title they were still carrying Robbie Van Mierlo.
"It's mostly new faces, but it's a lot of the old guard, too," said Cannon. "We all kind of feel like this isn't our last chance, too, though we know it might be. We're just going to go out there and give it our best."
