Sticking Points 2038.3: Brand-New Rockville Bench

Post by aaronweiner » Tue Mar 05, 2019 7:24 am

The Rockville Pikemen are going to have to make over their bench, as several of Rockville's depth players have priced themselves out of the market. Most notable among that group is Santiago Morales, who was traded to Huntsville, but the Pikemen appear to be parting ways with a number of their role players.

Already gone:

Morales: The utility infielder has been Rockville's best reserve for years, but he's priced himself out of the team.

Logan Inions: The platoon righty OF had his best season at the plate, but he's due to make over $1 million. He's already been released.

Pedro Barbo: No great loss here; Barbo played good enough defense to register above replacement but not much. Any amount over minimum appears to be too much for the franchise. Also already been released.

Gabriel Delgado: There's a chance that he's back if the team still has money after arbitration and contracts, but they probably won't have enough to keep Delgado. He won't demand a lot of money after a weak 2037 but they're close to the cap.

There are some interesting cases left on the team, too. Yi-ke Zang and Jin-Song Xuan were both below replacement this year and are in their last year of arbitration; Xuan is 100% to be back but could the team part ways with Zang, whose numbers have been tailing off the past two years? Right now they project as starters.
