Sticking Points 2037.8: Zhao Starts With a Pow!

Few individuals were surprised to see Bing-de Zhao in Rookie League ball this season after the BBA draft. After all, the international bonus baby cost the Pikemen over $30 million including penalties this offseason, and nobody doubted they'd see exactly what they had in him right away. The top prospect has not disappointed at all, recording a 1.102 OPS in 26 games so far, a 215 OPS+ and has been maybe the best player in Rookie League so far this year.

"We knew that Bing-de was going to be a great pro someday when we signed him out of Taiwan, but he's exceeded even our wildest expectations of him so far," said Rockville GM Aaron Weiner. "He's been a revelation and he's getting some of our fans pretty excited."

Zhao is leading the Rookie League in hitting so far with a .394 average. He has five homers and 18 RBI in the 26 games, and while the team has been playing him in left field it is believed that Zhao's best position will be first base or second base in the professional ranks.

"He's just 17 years old but he's carrying himself like a veteran," said Weiner. "We couldn't be more pleased."

Several other prospects have been playing well for Rookie League Aurora as well. Outfielder Manuel Rivera, who has spent several years in the Rockville international complex, has been raking, as has Rockville infield prospect Mario Lopez. Dave Houston has been very good on the mound for Aurora.
