Sticking Points 2035.4: Dempster Steve Nebraska, Gomez 2nd
Rockville's Arthur Dempster won his first JL Steve Nebraska Award in 2034, while Rockville's Enrique Gomez finished second in the voting for the fifth time (Gomez has two awards of his own). The rare double was last achieved in 2032 when Roberto Ramos and Cisco Morales finished first and second for California, but rarely have two pitchers dominated the voting as much as Dempster and Gomez, who received 23 of 26 first place votes.
"It's nice to be a part of history, and it's great to see my teammate Arthur Dempster win his first award," said Gomez, who was signed to a large multi-year deal in the 2033-2034 offseason. "I've been very fortunate to pitch with LaLoosh and now Dempster, and it's exciting working with such great young men."
Dempster went 18-2 with a 3.25 ERA and was worth two full wins more than any other pitcher in the Johnson League other than Gomez, who went 17-8 with a 2.86 ERA. Remarkably, despite pitching just 199 innings, Dempster managed to lead the JL in strikeouts, and allowed the lowest OPS from opposing batters by a crushing 35 points over Santa Fe's Leon Ramirez.
"It's a great honor to win this award, and it's even more exciting after finishing second last year," said Dempster, who has led the JL in wins above replacement in each of the past two seasons and has four consecutive seasons of double-digit wins. "I'm disappointed we couldn't win the title this year, but I'm excited we'll have much of the same team back next season."
The two pitchers will both be back for Rockville next year, and they will spearhead the Rockville plans for 2035.
"We're thrilled to have two amazing pitchers like Arthur and Enrique," said Rockville manager Chet Rouse. "We're really blessed to have those kinds of superior talents on our team."

Thanks. Don't forget your other articles
Anyway, I'm happy to see Dempster kick ass. I was concerned about his control holding him back but it's not an issue with the 12 stuff. Wish I knew he had 12 stuff before I traded him!

I'm pretty sure you made out fine with your side. That's one of those mega-trades that will probably be listed on both their Hall of Fame pages.

Nice article. Gomez never pitched with LaLoosh, though. You're probably thinking of Eduardo Lopez.

Meh, Gomez is getting old. Maybe he's getting senile , too.RonCo wrote:Nice article. Gomez never pitched with LaLoosh, though. You're probably thinking of Eduardo Lopez.
