Wise Kraken 47.2032: Fourth Straight 2-4 Sim

Post by aaronweiner » Thu Aug 17, 2017 7:48 pm

In a surprisingly odd sim, the Carolina Kraken found the same old story. Despite a complete-game shutout from beleaguered starting pitcher Bill Lewis and another excellent sim from bullpen members not named Mata, the Kraken managed to go 2-4 for the fourth consecutive sim. If you're not really good at ratios, that means they're 8-16 over their last four weeks.

"We're doing a little each week, but not enough to win games," said Kraken manager Chet Rouse. "We even got some timely hits this week, but it's just not enough to get over the hump."

The biggest story of the week was the team's second complete game shutout. The first was by rookie #5 starter Lucas Meech, and the other one is by #4 starter Lewis, who threw a five-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks against the defending champion Jacksonville Hurricanes. More on Lewis later.

The Kraken also did better than the numbers would suggest: a .650 team OPS is nothing to be proud of, and neither is a team batting average of .215, but the team finished in the middle of the pack offensively. Their average of 4.3 runs per game in the sim was higher than their season average. The Kraken also finished in the top quarter in ERA, though five unearned runs cost the team. Carolina also lost another one-run game; the team is now 2-8 in those games.

"We actually performed in the clutch this week, but we just couldn't find the victories," said DH Eddie Macy, who performed well in four games. "If we keep playing well in big moments we have a chance to dig out of this hole."

The losing sim brings Carolina's record to 17-27 on the year, in last place in the JL Atlantic and tied for third-worst in the BBA. The Kraken will face first place Montreal on the road for two more, and then will host second place Charm City this week for five games.
