Wise Kraken 37.2032: Kraken Offense Grinds To A Halt

The Carolina Kraken knew they were going to have some offensive difficulties. It's a clue when you're signing an out-of-work DH in the first week of the season and immediately plugging him in as the starter. However, the Kraken offense has been disastrous this year, placing dead last in the league, and it's showing up on the field. Carolina somehow managed to win two games while being outscored 39-19 over six games, and the string of blowouts didn't sit well with the team.

"We're getting a little restless here," said Kraken second baseman Valeri Kharlamov. "We're supposed to be a better team than this, but right now we're really not."

While the offense gets a lot of the blame, we shouldn't ignore the pitching staff's responsibility either. The Kraken dealt away setup man Manny Vargas this week, which is unlikely to help a flagging bullpen. Arthur Dempster and Andre Georges combined for an 0-3 record, just 14 innings, and a 9 ERA in three starts in the sim, and while Lucas Meech and Juan Perez continued their steady work in the rotation, Dempster and Georges continue to be up and down, week to week.

"They're still young guys and they're still looking for what will make them special," said Kraken manager Chet Rouse. "They're special talents, and we love these guys and we're confident that they'll come around eventually."

The Kraken got their two wins from struggling Louisville this week, as the Sluggers have been sputtering out of the gate this year. They'll take on suprisingly .500 Havana and then one against Jacksonville after this.

"We're hoping that we rebound from this well," said Kraken right fielder Chet Gabriel, who along with Davis Locke was one of the two offensive highlights this week. "I know we're a tough bunch of guys and we can do better."

Soupy could spark the offense.
