2012.44 - Buffalo Sauce – July Top Performances in Buffalo

Post by mrbornac » Sat Sep 28, 2013 9:32 pm

The first month of the second half of the season saw the Bison do something they had not done earlier in the year – they won more games than they lost. A winning record, something we didn’t expect to see! Our owner might think we should have this every month, but we are happy to see it finally happen here. While it does not help our draft status, we do want to see this team learn how to win.

Batter of the Month

CF Jimmy Starks : We had faith that Jimmy Starks could infact be a star in this league, but few expected him to be the best rookie in the month of July based on how the first half of the season went for him. The second half started off with a bang for him, seeing him hit a staggering 43 hits in the month, with 8 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs, to go with 6 stolen bases. He scored a fantastic 23 runs, and even knocked in 16, and had a split of .387/.402/.550 for an OPS of .951. We would like to see better defense from him in center, but if he produces like this at the top of the lineup, we may not care! I am not sure who I will vote for as the rookie of the year from the Bison, will it be Starks or Fierro???

Starting Pitcher of the Month

SP Kim Rodas : Two months in a row, and Rodas was our best starting pitcher! This is what we are talking about! He continues to get wins, going 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 37.1 IP. He gave up 34 hits, walked 11, and struck out 14. His WHIP of 1.21 was not fantastic, but frankly, we don’t care, he had another 3 complete games, giving him 7 on the year, only 1 off the Frick League leader. Additionally, he did have 1 shutout this month. Is he worth the 8 million this year? It’s starting to look like it…….

MR Denzel Harvey : We have a problem. Our 7th and 8th inning guys do great, and our closers struggle, so we swap them around, and the 7th and 8th inning guys do great, and the closer struggles. This continued in July, and we saw Harvey bounce back from being demoted from closer to setup guy by pitching nearly lights out. He had a 2-1 record, and in 11 innings, he had an ERA of 0.82. He allowed 9 hits, 9 walks, and 7 strike outs. His WHIP of 1.64 was clearly too high, but he did well to strand the runners he allowed. He did earn 2 holds in the month. Good job Denzel.
