2012.04 - Buffalo Sauce - Bison Acquire 3 in Rule 5 Draft

Due to a paperwork oversight, the Buffalo Bison wound up brining three underloved youngsters into the orginization with the Rule 5 draft. How many slots will be available for this trio waits to be seen, however, there is expected to be a fight in Spring Training, possibly with a broken pool cue, to see who wants it most.

The new players on the 40 man roster are:

3B/1B William "Danny" Frost From ATC - Frost, hailing from Galax, Virginia, is a fine corner infielder, playing both 1B and 3B with skill. At this point, he looks like he will hurt left-handed pitching much worse then right handed, which does not bode well for a long and prosperous future in the MBBA, however, at 25 years old, it's possible he might have a little development left. The Bison have a kid in AAA that is their long term plan at the hot corner, however, "Danny" should be able to play a defensive replacement role next year, and this year, he might even get a chance to play every day.

SS/2B Gregg Anderson From NO - Shortstop seems to be the position that has given the Bison the most problems over the past few years, and there is no Derek Jeter in the minor leagues that we can see. What the team would like most at this point is a guy who can catch the ball, turn a double play, and not be too big of a liability at the plate. To this end, the Bison were interested in Anderson from the New Orleans orginization. What Greggy can do is mesmarize you at either 2B or SS with his range and his ability to turn a double play. While not a great hitter, he does have ok speed and good instincts on the bases, along with the ability to put the bat on the ball and not to wiff every time at the plate. The scary part is that he has never played higher then AA, so he might be in over his head just a bit in 2012.

SS/2B Michael House From CAR - We just got done talking about our difficulties with finding a full time shortstop, and House is another player who is trying to fit into that role. House has a different history from Anderson, spending the past 4 seasons in AAA. At the age of 27, he is a bit older, but he is still a burner on the bases, and if possible, his ranger is even better than Anderson's.

In truth, Anderson and House are at best the 27th player on the Bison. Frost might earn a spot outright however.
