The Buffalo Rag 1996.1

Things are going well in Buffalo, a lot better than last season in fact. The Bison finished with a .395 win % and were 50(:eek2:) games behind division for Hakensack. This season has started with the Bison keeping pace and only trailing the division leading Bulls by 1 game at the end of May.

A big difference has been the maturation of SP Amen Mitrani. The young fireballer has really beared down and put some masterful games together. Like this 11 strikeout scoreless performance against Birmingham or this CG SHO against Montreal. Veteran SP Katarou Sadao has been solid this season after having an injury plagued 1995. Richard Tolleson has been given a spot in the rotation and worked it well so far too.

A big help for Amen & the staff was getting some offense in the door during the offseason. 1B Kevin Maas has given some great pop to the lineup, but still needs to find his groove. He is a nice sidekick for veteran Stephen Sax who is having a usual solid season with early numbers at 331/383/520. The big surprise this season has been the emergence of C Rod 'He Hate Me' Smart. Smart has been relentless at the plate going 338/380/543 thus far. The last big piece of offense has been another FA acqusition, Leroy Lane. Lane has been a great OBP threat and then can motor on the basepaths when he gets there, stealing bases at an 83% clip.

The Bison have been constantly looking for ways to improve, recently trading for veteran Lem Galarraga and signing FAMR Rich Garces.
