10/5/2063
Here is a link to last year’s left field prospect ranking. My top ranked outfielder at that time bumped a point of outfield arm and is now classified as a right fielder. I’m dropping the second player off that list because he’ll turn 26 before Opening Day 2064. The third ranked left fielder was included in my first base list. So these are mostly new names below!
#1
David Méndez (C+) | Age: 19 | R
OVR/POT | CON | BABIP | AVK | GAP | POW | EYE |
20/45 | 4/7 | 3/6 | 5/9 | 3/5 | 3/6 | 3/6 |
Last year’s supplemental second round pick, Mendez was listed in the draft as a first baseman but possesses good tools for a left fielder despite poor athleticism. When fully developed he should hit .300 thanks to high contact rates along with 20 HR power and enough walks to have a high OBP. Mendez’s raw Rookie ball numbers look good at first glance but when adjusted for the league’s scoring environment he was a below average hitter. I still expect to promote him to Short A for 2064 thanks to our lack of outfield depth.
#2
Gang Liu (C) | Age: 20 | SA
OVR/POT | CON | BABIP | AVK | GAP | POW | EYE |
25/45 | 4/6 | 3/6 | 4/5 | 5/5 | 4/8 | 4/4 |
Another converted first baseman, Liu came over from Cobble Hill in a trade last offseason. At his best Liu will play a mediocre left field, so he needs his plus power potential to act as his calling card. His below average plate discipline doesn’t help. Liu struggled in Short A in 2063.
#3
Abdul-Razzaq bin Ahmed (C-) | Age: 17 | INT
OVR/POT | CON | BABIP | AVK | GAP | POW | EYE |
10/45 | 1/6 | 2/6 | 1/5 | 1/6 | 1/6 | 1/6 |
A 2063 international amateur free agent signing, Ahmed has a well-rounded game of average hitting tools and above average range for a corner outfielder. His weak throwing arm will keep him on the left side of the outfield. Ahmed gets demerits for still being so raw.
#4
Rafael Ramírez (D+) | Age: 24 | AAA
OVR/POT | CON | BABIP | AVK | GAP | POW | EYE |
40/40 | 6/6 | 6/6 | 6/6 | 7/7 | 5/5 | 5/5 |
In his third go-round AAA, Ramirez posted his weakest offensive line yet despite seeing his BABIP bump up to 6. He was often miscast as a center fielder after
Jim Sitton’s promotion to the BBA. If he does reach the majors it will likely be as a short-sided platoon left fielder which is blocked after an excellent year from
Miguel Lussier.
#5
Ricardo Rodríguez (D) | Age: 23 | A
OVR/POT | CON | BABIP | AVK | GAP | POW | EYE |
35/40 | 4/5 | 4/4 | 4/6 | 5/5 | 7/7 | 5/5 |
Rodriguez was drafted in 2056 and worked his way thru both the Long Beach and Phoenix organizations before finally reaching the Bears. Never really considered a prospect, he didn’t record more than 10 ABs in a season until 2061. This past year in A ball, Rodriguez finally played everyday and slashed .252/.371/.447 with 23 homers. Rodriguez might need another bump offensively to overcome being sort of a statue in the outfield, but the 7 power (8 against lefties) gives him a chance.
