2059.29: Bears' Cubs - Relief Pitching Prospects

In the final edition of the 2059 Bears’ Cubs series I’ll focus on the pitchers who I've resigned to the bullpen in my mind. This is a position already limited to the high minors (most good young pitchers are still viewed as starters) and the depth there is lacking. This isn't a good sign for having guys with options next year which was something that limited my flexibility with the bullpen in 2059.

A

B

C

D
D+ Duane Bishop
D Dale McCutcheon

Honorable Mention
Jim Fields
Duridar Leabua

One thing to pay attention to with these players is whether the ratings you see when you open their pages are as a starter or reliever. Duane Bishop is listed as a reliever and has 5-6-5 potential as a 20 year-old. I've bounced the former first round pick back and forth from the rotation but with limited ratings and only 4 stamina my best bet is to develop an effective middle reliever. McCutcheon is back on this list as a D for the second year in a row after pitching across three levels in 2059. The lefty was worth 3.1 WAR in just 96 innings at A ball Thunder Bay.

Fields seems like a long shot but he's been an effective reliever at AAA at a young age. Leabua is a similar prospect but younger.

I forget how you set up your rankings because I feel like D is a bit harsh for Bishop, even if he hasn't done as well as you'd hoped.

I seem to prioritize the bullpen about as little as anybody else in the league. If you’re not a high leverage looking type I just won’t rank a prospect above C.
