2059.28: Bears' Cubs - Starting Pitching Prospects

In this edition of the 2059 Bears’ Cubs series I’ll focus on players who still profile as starting pitchers. Admittedly, several of these guys will become relievers before/if they reach San Fernando. This position group has been ravaged by the trades to acquire Sonny Bigalow and Qutuz Mahdi and the promotion of Rick Marriott. Don’t be surprised if the Bears focus on pitching in the 2060 draft.

A

B
None

C
C- Clay Stabb
C- Juan Silva

D
D+ Felipe Ledesma
D+ Jerry Richards
D Donnie Bowling
D George Schroeder

Honorable Mention
Juan Oliveira
Zhuo-cheng Sa
Cisco Rosa
Dylan Harmon
Cesar Sanchez
Antonio Garcia

The best starting pitching prospect in the San Fernando Bears organization is Clay Stabb which isn’t saying much. Stabb has 7 potential Stuff including a 9 slider, throws left-handed, and is still a teenager. He’s mostly pitched well in the minors but must work on avoiding the longball. The Bears signed him for a $250K bonus earlier this season after he was released by Yellow Springs. Juan Silva was our second round pick in the 2059 draft. Just 17 years old, he has six pitches and a movement-oriented profile which we like. But there’s a daunting amount of development remaining on his road to the Brewster.

Ledesma is a southpaw who was drafted a couple of years ago. He’s been handled with kid gloves and performed well but hasn’t bumped. Jerry Richards has a 7 Control potential as his calling card but hasn’t stayed healthy. His age and advanced development will likely ticket him for AA next season. Bowling and Schroeder are similar three pitch mix guys who probably end up in the bullpen eventually. Bowling, an international scouting discovery, has the better pitches and stamina. Schroeder was given a $2.875M bonus to sign earlier this year after being inexplicably released by Boise two weeks after signing post-draft.

There are a slew of guys listed as honorable mentions because they have at least 5-5-5 rated potential (usually at least one 6) but are already in their 20s so they’ll need a late career bump to reach the BBA.

Stabb was a roster crunch issue. I think he has potential but the control and FIP were the tiebreakers he lost on.

Game seems too low on him potential overall rating based on the components. Dunno, kind of a mysterious prospect.

I can't swear to this because I work on my minors so much and keep adjusting who's on the roster, but I think he was a late cut because I thought he had some potential to unlock. Will be curious how he does for you.
