- The Bears claimed Dvimurdhan Sameer off waivers from Sacramento. The 30 year-old reliever has the ratings of a BBA pitcher but is now on his fifth team and has never found consistent success. We'll give him an opportunity on a last place team to finally live up to his potential.
- The Bears and Mad Popes essentially made a trade, as in the same sim Sacramento claimed Fernando Ferretti off waivers. Ferretti was with the Bears since my first season at the helm when I selected him in the rule 5 draft. Across 862.1 innings with San Fernando Ferretti was worth 7.8 WAR and always seemed to have a FIP in the mid 4.00s. When his ERA was in line with his FIP he was a reliable back end of the rotation starting pitcher. I was tempted to reliever convert him many times thank to his diverse arsenal and killer changeup but ultimately the fastball has always seemed too mediocre. He'll be eligible for free agency this offseason and at a $3M salary currently we just didn't see ourselves re-signing him. He'll probably pitch great in conjunction with his new home park and improved defense behind him.
- Javier Manuel returns to the fold after being claimed off waivers from Atlantic City. My interest in Manuel should come as no surprise since he spent 2051 to 2055 in the San Fernando farm system. He was traded to Atlantic City in a swap of disappointing prospects that saw Keith Mays come to the Bears. I'm not expecting Manuel to see many opportunities in San Fernando this season but he still had an option this year and we had several open spots on the 40-man roster. The switch-hitting first baseman has shown the ability to hit home runs in the Brewster and provides some needed organizational depth.
- We claimed Lineu Aldo off waivers from Vancouver and will try to get him the September ABs necessary to get the future Hall of Famer to 3,000 career hits.
